While visiting New York City last year, I visited the 9/11 Memorial. In observation of this day, I thought I would post two pictures from that visit. The first, a panorama, gives an overview of the Memorial. As I walked along the railing, I noticed a yellow rose placed in the engraving of one of the victims’ names, shown in the second image. I later learned that the name, Ada M. Davis, was a civilian working in the Pentagon and was one of those killed when Flight 77 struck the building.

Stunning photos. I haven’t been to the memorial in New York. Will have to visit when I go back…

Thanks very much for your comments. It was a real crush getting in back in May 2013 and the security checks were extremely tight. The memorial itself, with the pools and falling water is surprisingly large, almost overwhelming.

The second photo struck me really hard in an unspeakable way. Thank you for sharing. This Saturday I will visit the 9/11 Museum and memorial, so this photo gives me an overview of what to expect.

I’m glad you decided to photograph this. I went a couple years ago and it was really an intense experience. I love how the pools seem to symbolize a hole where all those people’s lives were that will never be filled.

Thank you very much. It really is quite different than the other two Memorials, (Pentagon and Flight 93-Pennsylvania). I think part of it is the enormous scale.
