I saw that memorial for the first time last April. It is very striking, quite moving. Your photo of it is lovely. There is also something meaningful in the statue being bathed in warm sunlight juxtaposed against that dark, foreboding cloud.
Thanks very much for visiting and commenting. I agree, the clouds really helped strengthen the image. I’ve been there a number of times since then, but this is still my favorite image of his Memorial.
Thank you. And today was actually not bad even though I didn’t get out to shoot. A possible commission came in over the transom. Hope all is going well for you in those warmer climes.
Thanks very much for your comments. I remember that when I took the shot it was a special moment. I had been there a couple days earlier (the actual holiday that year) but the grounds were filled with media people and public officials. So I didn’t take any images on that day. I tried again on the 18th and the conditions were perfect.
Thanks, Mitch. At this time of year, the light from the sunrise strikes the statue perfectly on a clear morning. The timing, coinciding with King’s month of birth, makes it especially appropriate.
Robin, the way you made this picture has a symbolic meaning for me. The road came to the memorial and then split in two directions. Which one is right to chose? It seems to me this person knew. I love pictures with the story telling content.
Light amidst darkness.

I love the warnth in the shot, the warm hue starts from the patch of ground on the right and left to the monument into the clouds.

Really like the way it’s lit. When I usually see it, it still looks white and bright… almost like an iceberg. Your version is much better.

Thanks, Stacy. Another good time is when the Cherry Blossoms are out, although it is crowded then.

Yeah, been there in that madness, though they are spectacular to see 🙂

But before dawn and for a few minutes after, the crowds are almost tolerable. Especially on a cold weekday.
